INFANT BOY ABANDONED OUTSIDE FOOD STORE

The mother of a baby boy abandoned outside a food market has been charged with misdemeanor child neglect, police said Wednesday.

The 4-month-old son of Yvette Arnold, 27, appeared healthy and showed no signs of abuse when he was found early Tuesday, said Suzanne Puryear, an assistant director of the Norfolk Social Services Division.

He was placed in a foster home and will remain there until investigators determine what happened.
