The Mental Health Association of Roanoke Valley is accepting nominations for its annual awards for those who have made contributions in the area of mental health.
Roanoke Valley individuals and organizations may be nominated in any of the following categories: community service, employer of the year, media, medical, public policy, unsung hero, Robert A. Croxson memorial (for clergy), distinguished service, committee chairman of the year and volunteer of the year.
Nominations must be received by March 27. The awards will be presented during the association's annual awards luncheon May 1. For more information, call 344-0931. / Cave Spring Methodist preschool registering
Registration has begun for the 1992-93 weekday school at Cave Spring United Methodist Church.
The school offers morning classes for 2-year-olds at tuition rates of: $31 per month for one day a week and $62 per month for two days a week. Rates for 3- and 4-year-olds are $48 per month for Tuesday/Thursday classes and $58 per month for Monday/Wednesday/Friday sessions. Four-year-olds have the option of attending classes five days a week at a cost of $78 per month.

The Children's Miracle Network's "Cute Kid Contest," held recently at Valley View Mall, raised $3,850 for hospitals in the Virginia Children's Health Care Network, which includes Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The funds were raised through voting, at a penny per vote, for 157 contestants. Children in the top 15 places were Kristie Moore, Phillip Boothe, Ian Hudson, Cory Quesenberry, Chasily Crawford, Shawna Brogan, Zeh Briggs IV, Tenish White, Lacy Richards, Ryan Cox, Brittany Argabright, Christopher Rice, Mason Cole, Melissa and Candice Bowles, Melonie Fisher and Billy Barrett. / `Leap Day for SPCA' nets $7,000 in donations
More than $7,000 in pledges and donations for the Roanoke Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was collected through the recent "Leap Day for the SPCA."
Instructors from the YMCA Central Center led the 27 participants, including the following prize winners: Betty Young, first; Rae Rhodes, second; Doreen Aikins, third; and Robin Roberts' team, team prize.
