THE TIPOFF

TIGGER TIME: "Winnie the Pooh" comes to Mill Mountain Theatre at Roanoke's Center in the Square today through Sunday. It's the annual production of the Junior League of Roanoke Valley.

Tickets are $1 for children and $2 for adults. The box office number is 342-5740.

Shows will be today at 4:30 and 7:30, Saturday and 10 a.m., noon and 3, 5 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30.

Today's 4:30 performance will be signed for the hearing impaired.\ \ FANTASTIC: "The Fantasticks," the world's longest-running musical, will be presented by the Barter Theatre on Thursday night at 7:30 at the Galax High School auditorium.

Tickets are $8. The number to call is 236-0510, and the sponsor is the Galax Foundation for Excellence in Education.

The production will travel to Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg, W.Va., for an 8 o'clock performance March 27. Wednesday's performance at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke is sold out.\ \ DIET STARTS MONDAY: "Tasting and Toasting," the annual fund-raiser for Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge, will be Sunday from 5 to 7 at Hollins College.

Traditionally, hundreds of people sample the offerings of regional restaurants, caterers and vintners. Tickets are $30. The number to call is 362-3968.\ \ HARMONIOUS: The Seldom Scene, with John Starling, will play a bluegrass concert tonight at 8 at Appomattox County High School auditorium. The school's Band Boosters are sponsors of the event. Tickets are available at the Record Exchange in Blacksburg, and they'll be sold at the door for $4.\ \ A LITTLE ROMANCE: The Audubon Quartet and guest artists David Oei and Timothy Carter will present the music of Franz Schubert on Saturday night at 8 and Sunday afternoon at 3 in Squires Recital Salon on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg.

Oei plays the piano, Carter the double bass.

Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for students and senior citizens. Reservations are required. Call 231-5615.\ \ MASS TRANSIT: "Bus Stop," the William Inge comedy, will be presented tonight and Saturday night and March 27 and 28 at 8 o'clock at the Elks National Home Theatre in Bedford.

A 2 p.m. performance will be presented March 29.

The production is from the Little Town Players of Bedford.

Call 254-1879.\ \ VIRGINIA'S FINEST: The Great American Music Ensemble, a group of musicians from Virginia and beyond, will perform the music of Duke Ellington and others tonight at 8 at the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center.

The show is a sneak preview of the big band's sold-out debut, on Saturday, at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

Doug Richards directs the group. He says his mission is not to present a museum or an exercise in nostalgia, but a band you'll want to dance to.
