TURNER IS FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICA

Russell Turner, a senior center at Hampden-Sydney College, has been chosen to the first team of the 1992 National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III All-America basketball team.

Turner, out of Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, is the only state player named to the first team. Ferrum College senior Everett Foxx made the second team.

The 1992 Old Dominion Athletic Conference player of the year, Turner is one of three players to be a four-time first team All-ODAC selection. He averaged 22.6 points and 10.1 rebounds for the Tigers, who finished 24-6, won the ODAC and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Turner is Hampden-Sydney's career leader in points (2,271), field goals made, free throws made, blocked shots and scoring average.

With a grade-point average of 3.561, Turner also was honored as a first team GTE Academic All-America.

Foxx, from Caroline, averaged more than 26 points a game and finished his career as Ferrum's all-time leading scorer. - Staff report
