ROANOKE MOTEL CLERK ROBBED, HIT

A Roanoke motel clerk was robbed at gunpoint early Thursday and punched in the face by the robber as he fled.

James Richard Bowles told police he was making his rounds at Thrifty Inn Motel on Kimball Avenue Northeast about 1:40 a.m. when a man stuck a gun in his back.

The man forced Bowles to the lobby and made Bowles give him money from the cash drawer. The amount was undetermined.

As he was leaving, the robber punched Bowles in the face. Bowles suffered a split lip and a loose tooth, police said.
