MAN AWARDED $2,500 IN FALSE ARREST LAWSUIT

A man who claimed he was falsely arrested during a visit with his family to Virginia Beach in 1989 was awarded $2,500 Friday by a jury hearing his lawsuit against two police officers.

But the jury of six women and one man rejected John Farag's claim of excessive force against officers G.F. Sheridan and Julie Thompson-Pickell.

After 2 1/2 hours of deliberations, the jury cleared Sheridan of all claims but ruled against Thompson-Pickell on a state claim of false arrest and a federal claim of unlawful seizure. - Associated Press
