`ROSIE' IS RETURNING

"The Trials of Rosie O'Neill" will be back on television April 11 at 10 p.m.

The CBS series, starring Sharon Gless as a sometimes abrasive public defender, last appeared Dec. 19. Though generally favorably reviewed, it suffered from low ratings and numerous time changes since its debut two seasons ago.

Producer Barney Rosenzweig said he mailed 5,000 letters to loyal fans advising them of the show's return. Rosenzweig also made "Cagney & Lacey," which starred Gless and Tyne Daly.

His efforts to save "Rosie" included spending $50,000 late last year for full-page ads in USA Today and The New York Times. Similar attempts to revive "Cagney & Lacey" brought that show back for four seasons after CBS canceled it in 1983.
