CAVE SPRING GIRLS DROP ALBEMARLE 4-3

Shanda Ingram had an assist and two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as Cave Spring edged Albemarle 4-3 in girls' soccer Saturday.

Stephanie Scanlin added a goal for the Knights (1-0), and Aimee Beightol had a goal and the assist to Ingram in overtime.

Albemarle dropped to 1-1.

In other high school action:

\ BASEBALL: In Lynchburg, Mark Tuck and Gary Wiggins each went 2-for-3 as William Byrd dropped E.C. Glass 9-3 in the Terriers' season opener at City Stadium. Brian Young pitched the victory for Byrd, striking out nine in five innings, allowing two hits. Glass fell to 1-2. - Staff report
