Police have identified the man who was struck by a car and killed on Interstate 581 in Roanoke Saturday.

Kenneth L. Cain, 31, died as he tried to cross the southbound lane of traffic just north of the Elm Avenue exit about 8 p.m. He was struck by a car being driven by a woman from Beckley, W.Va., and police said he died instantly.

No charges were placed. Police said there was no way for the driver to avoid hitting Cain.
