MAN CHARGED IN TRANSIENT'S DEATH

Jeffrey Dennis Graybill, 30, was arrested in connection with the death of Ervin Henry Lawrence, 64. Lawrence was found March 15 by an acquaintance who came looking after not seeing him for about two weeks.

An autopsy later revealed Lawrence had been strangled.

Lawrence, found under two blankets and two coats, had been living in a shack in a wooded area near the railroad off Broadway Street. The area is often frequented by transients, police said.

Graybill, whom police also described as a transient, was being held without bond in Roanoke City Jail Sunday night.
