BRIEFLY PUT
FLORIDA officials, trying to write an anti-nudity law, are considering a
328-word definition of "buttocks." One proposal goes: "The area at the rear of
the human body which lies between two imaginary lines running parallel to the
ground when a person is standing, the first or top of such line between
one-half inch below the top of the vertical cleavage of the nates . . . and
the second or bottom line being one-half inch above the lowest point of the
curvature of the fleshy protuberance sometimes referred to as the gluteal fold
. . . "
Whew! Maybe gobbledygook poses a danger greater than skimpy swim suits. In
the interest of brevity, the officials should consult Webster's New World
Dictionary, which refers rather simply to "the rump."
