BADLY BURNED MAN DRIVES SELF TO HOSPITAL

A Wythe County man managed to drive himself to Wythe County Community Hospital with burns over 90 percent of his body Sunday following a cabin fire near Max Meadows.

Jimmy Ratliff, a caretaker at the cabin that destroyed by fire about 3 p.m. Sunday, has been airlifted to the University of Virginia Burn Center in Charlottesville where he was in critical condition Monday.

Investigator Kent Vaughan of the Wythe County Sheriff's Department said the cause of the fire was not known. Authorities hope to talk to Ratliff about it today.
