8 TREATED, RELEASED AFTER TOXIC EXPOSURE

Eight people were treated and released at Memorial Hospital after being exposed to toxic pesticide in a store stockroom Monday, officials said.

Several employees of a Big Lots store became ill while cleaning up after a quart jar of Malathion 50 was dropped. Seven were taken to Memorial Hospital, four with skin contamination and three with chest pains and shortness of breath associated with inhalation.

An eighth person, an employee of a store next door, also was overcome by fumes and taken to Memorial Hospital.
