CUSTODY-FIGHT GIRL'S SUIT OVER TV SHOW SETTLED

U.S. District Judge Stanley Sporkin approved on Monday a $175,000 damage award to 9-year-old Hilary Foretich by the Lifetime Cable Network for a 1990 television documentary about the celebrated battle over her custody.

Sporkin approved the settlement over objections by the girl's father, Dr. Eric Foretich, whose attorney argued that it was an insufficient amount to settle a $20 million suit.

The documentary showed Hilary, then 4, talking to her mother in a therapy session in which the child demonstrated with a doll alleged sex abuse by her father.

Eric Foretich has repeatedly denied abusing his daughter and the allegations have never been substantiated. - Associated Press
