CONVICTION OF INMATE ON DEATH ROW UPHELD

The Supreme Court on Monday left intact the Virginia murder conviction of Ronald Dale Yeatts, sentenced to death for killing a woman in rural Pittsylvania County in 1989.

The court, without comment, rejected arguments that Yeatts' trial was tainted by the use of statements he involuntarily made to police and that the jurors who sentenced him were misled.

Yeatts was convicted of the Sept. 23, 1989, murder of Ruby Dodson. Prosecutors said he repeatedly stabbed the 70-year-old woman during a robbery at her home.
