LEMIEUX SCORES POINT NO. 1,000

Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux became the 36th player in NHL history to score 1,000 points when he picked up an assist in the second period of the Penguins' game with the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.

Lemieux, who also had a goal earlier in the period, recorded his 1,000th career point when he assisted on Kevin Stevens' 50th goal this season at 10:04.

The assist gave Lemieux 596 for his career to go along with 404 goals. It was his 513th game. - Associated Press
