Sauter guided the T-Birds to a 36-24-4 record and third place in the ECHL's East Division. The 36 wins almost doubled the club's output in 1990-91.
Sauter beat out Toledo's Chris McSorley for the award. McSorley led the expansion Toledo Storm to the league's best record (47-15-2) and the West Division regular-season title.
The voting was done by the ECHL head coaches and one media representative from each of the league's 15 cities. - Staff report
