VMI UPSETS NO. 13 UMBC IN LACROSSE

Dick Owens and Dan Delawyer scored the game-clinching goals and goaltender Matt Ott turned away 30 shots as VMI upset 13th-ranked Maryland-Baltimore County 13-10 in men's college lacrosse Tuesday.

Although UMBC (5-1) dominated statistically, VMI (4-0) led all the way in a close game.

VMI's biggest lead was 9-5 in the fourth quarter, but the Retrievers cut it to 11-10 with 3:15 to go. Delawyer then scored the Keydets' 12th goal with 1:41 left and assisted on the final goal by Owens to put the game away.

Gill finished with four goals and Delawyer three for VMI. Gill has 20 goals in four games.
