At Natural Bridge, Joey Carter drove in three runs, including two with a triple in a six-run fourth inning, as Natural Bridge downed Shawsville 8-2. Jason Knick pitched the complete-game victory for the Rockets (1-0) and struck out 13 Shawnees. Scott Phillips hit a two-run home run for Shawsville (1-1).
At Christiansburg, the Demons and Lord Botetourt played to a 3-3 tie in a game called after five innings because of darkness. Lord Botetourt was held to two hits, while Christiansburg had four. Both teams are 1-0-1.
At Floyd, Radford scored five runs in the first inning and went on to pound Floyd County 14-6. Wayne Lineburg picked up the win for the Bobcats (3-1). The Buffaloes slipped to 1-2.
At Dublin, Joey Bower homered, knocked in two runs and was the winning pitcher as Pulaski County defeated William Fleming 4-3 in nine innings. Al Holland was 3-for-4 with two doubles for William Fleming.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: At Bedford, Joel Allen and Joel Raintree scored goals as Liberty (2-0) defeated Nelson County 2-0 in Seminole District play. Liberty goalkeeper John Ayers had five saves.
Dublin, Aaron Quinlan scored two goals in the second half as the Cougars pulled away from a 1-1 halftime tie for a 5-1 win over Giles.
At Wytheville, Casey Underwood scored three goals as Radford downed George Wythe 7-3. Jason Bowles had two goals for the Maroons, who were outshot 25-11.
\ SOFTBALL: At William Byrd, Marcee Hufton homered, drove in five runs and pitched the victory as William Byrd knocked off Franklin County 8-4. The Terriers are 1-0; Franklin County is 2-1.
