The supervisors held a public hearing last Thursday on their proposed $61.5 million budget for 1992-93. Several people turned out to oppose further cuts in school funding.
Before the hearing, several supervisors had indicated they would like to avoid any tax increase, but to do that they would have to cut the budget by $510,000. A 2-cent increase in the real estate rate is needed to avoid that cut.
A 2-cent increase would mean the owner of an $80,000 home would pay an additional $16 a year in taxes. The owner of a $50,000 house would pay $10 more a year.
