MOM, DAUGHTERS CITED IN BAD CHECK BINGE

Worthless checks amounting to more than $30,000 led to the arrest of a mother and two daughters from South Carolina by the Wythe County Sheriff's Department and Wytheville police.

The officers arrested Jacquelin Marie Steel, 43, and her daughters, Barbara Anne Cannon, 23, and Elizabeth Louise Henderson, 21, of Gaffney, S.C., on charges of writing bad checks to buy merchandise in stores from Roanoke to here.

Mickey Smith of the Sheriff's Department saw their car - which matched the description of one being sought by authorities in Southwest Virginia - at the Wytheville K mart last weekend. The arrests followed.

Authorities also seized thousands of dollars worth of new merchandise from the car.
