SUBDIVISION PETITIONS FOR NATURAL GAS SERVICE

A petition with 40 signatures from the Country Club Estates area in west Wytheville has been presented to Town Council in support of extending natural gas service to the area.

United Cities Gas Co. has a line as far as the Greenlawn Classics industrial building on U.S. 11, just east of the subdivision. Jim Willis, a spokesman for the residents, said they had approached the company and were told to get 40 names of those interested in the service.

He said he was bringing it to council for its backing. "Gas is a public utility and we would like to have it," he said.

Council agreed to talk with the company about it.
