N.C. WOMAN KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION

A 27-year-old North Carolina woman died about 4:30 p.m. Monday in a two-car accident on U.S. 52 less than half a mile south of here in Carroll County.

The victim was identified as Renee Dukes Smith of Pilot Mountain, N.C., who was driving south when she collided with a northbound car driven by Jane Martin King of Hillsville.

The Smith car was struck on the driver's side, Trooper J.L. Bazzle said. The King car apparently had gone out of control and crossed the center line before the collision.
