STATE CONTRACT AWARDED TO IMPROVE STREET INTERSECTION IN NARROWS

The Virginia Department of Transportation has awarded a $90,000 contract to improve the intersection of Fleshman and Riverview streets in Narrows.

The work will be done by Allegheny Construction Inc. of Roanoke.

The Narrows work is one of 34 contracts awarded by the Commonwealth Transportation Board earlier this month.

Also, 14 bridges on Interstate 81 and U.S. 460 throughout the Salem Transportation District will receive deck joint repairs. The contractor for the $133,980 project is Lanford Bros. Inc. of Roanoke.

Work on most projects will begin in April.

Transportation officials ask that motorists drive cautiously through work zones.
