BURNED WYTHE MAN DIES IN UVA CENTER

A 43-year-old Wythe County man who managed to drive himself to a Wytheville hospital after being burned over 90 percent of his body died Tuesday at the University of Virginia Burn Center.

Jimmy Ratliff was a caretaker at a cabin in the Millers Creek section of Max Meadows. Fire destroyed the cabin early Sunday. Investigator Kent Vaughan with the county Sheriff's Department said the cause had not been determined.

Vaughan said Ratliff was flown to the burn center at Charlottesville after driving himself to Wythe County Community Hospital. - Southwest bureau
