IN SERVICE

AS1 WARREN STUART PALMER, son of Dorothy H. Palmer of 1803 Woodlawn Ave., Salem, and the late Andrew G. Palmer, was named Sailor of the Year for 1991 at Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine.

Palmer spent the last year as a Support Equipment Division representative, reviewing all technical directives to ensure compliance with all support equipment maintenance and repair procedures.

Palmer, a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, entered the Navy in 1972.

\ PFC. JAMES E. JACKINS, son of Nancy Brown of New Castle and Everette L. Williams of 1036 Joe Carrol Road, Salem, has been deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., for a six-month assignment in the Mediterranean.

Jackins is a 1990 graduate of Craig County High School.

\ MARINE 1ST SGT. JAMES R. BRYANT of 403 Howard Drive, Salem, recently reported for duty with 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Lynchburg.

He joined the Marine Corps Reserves in March 1976.
