GIVE KRISTI YAMAGUCHI A BREAK

I WOULD like to see an American world-class athlete given a break! Kristi Yamaguchi brought home the "gold" from the Winter Olympics for figure-skating. But what kind of a reception did she receive from the American advertising community? A snub!

I'm old enough to remember Pearl Harbor and President Roosevelt's incarceration of Japanese-American citizens. Not one instance of betrayal of their adopted land occurred, and decades later this imprisonment was recognized as criminal.

I also remember the Japanese-American military contingent that served in Italy in World War II with the best fighting record known.

Kristi is a young Californian who brought honor to her nation. She deserves better than this from Madison Avenue, and she should still receive it.

"The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves!" Kristi isn't the problem; she is the opportunity. PRICE M. COLLINS ROANOKE
