BUCHANAN - Charles Gilbert "Gil" Stinnett, age 75, suddenly passed away at his residence in Buchnana, Va. on the evening of March 24, 1992. He was born in Buchanan on April 15, 1916, the son of the late Charles Willam Stinnett and Eliza Gilbert Stinnett, both of long-time Buchanan families. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hammit Stinnett; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca S. Lennox of Roanoke; Sara and Frederick J. Mason of Roanoke; Kathleen and Ray M. Bennett of Fredericksburg, Va.; a son, Charles G. Stinnett, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Kearns Stinnett of Culpeper, Va. Also, surviving is a sister, Helen S. White of Decatur, Ala.; four grandchildren. A devout family man, he was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, a Free Mason, and a past member of the United Methodist Church of Culpeper, Va. where he and his wife resided from 1953 to 1979, when they returned to their home in Buchanan after his retirement from the Virginia State Highway Department. The family will receive friends and relatives on the evening of Friday, March 27, 1992 at Rader Funeral Home in Buchnana, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturdday, March 28, 1992 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Buchanan, Va. The Reverend Stephen R. Creech will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Buchanan Rescue Squad.
