Mrs. Robert R. Givens, Jr. (Melva Walton), of Roanoke County, died March 25, 1992 at her home. A caring and giving wife and mother, she was a very special lady who will be greatly missed. She was the widow of Robert R. Givens, Jr. She organized the Girl Scouts at Belmont Baptist Church, Roanoke, and was their first leader. She rolled bandages and knitted for the Red Cross during World War II and was a charter member of Green Ridge Baptist Church, where she served as an adult teacher, treasurer, and briefly as first W.M.U. president. She is survived by two sons, Robert Ryan Givens, III, of the home; Richard Walton Givens, Richmond; two daughters, Melva Bette Givens, Cheryl Myers; one granddaughter, Che Myers; one son-in-law, Gary Myers, all of Woodbridge. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 1992 at Green Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Palmer and the Rev. Sam Wall officiating. Burial will be in Givens Family Cemetery near Dixie Caverns. Memorials may be made to the Bob Porter Ministries or the Fort Lewis Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends Friday after 3:00 p.m. and Saturday after 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
