FEC SAYS ROBERTSON MUST REPAY $388,544

The Federal Election Commission on Thursday ordered Pat Robertson's 1988 presidential campaign to repay the government $388,544, mostly for exceeding election spending limits.

The commission also ordered the campaign to repay news organizations more than $105,000 for overcharging them for seats on campaign flights.

The commission ruled 5-0 that the campaign exceeded by more than $2 million the state and national spending limits it agreed to when it accepted a record $10.1 million in public campaign financing.

Robertson's organization has 30 days to appeal the FEC finding. Then, it can go to court if it still disagrees. - Associated Press
