With no natural predators to control them, coyotes have proliferated in Southwest Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, as well as in West Virginia and other states.
Officials say coyotes recently have been cited in Fauquier, Warren and Rappahannock counties.
The specialists say coyotes will be in every Virginia county and every state in a few years. They pose no immediate danger to humans, wildlife officials said, but do threaten livestock and pets.
