TIRE FIRE SMOLDERING IN WYTHE

A tire fire in the Grahams Forge area of Wythe County may smolder for several days following the efforts of three fire departments to bring it under control.

The fire broke out Wednesday at a tire dump off Virginia 618. Todd Branscome, the county's emergency services coordinator, said departments from Max Meadows, Ivanhoe and Barren Springs had been on the scene and others from Rural Retreat, Wytheville, Speedwell and Draper were on standby.

Branscome said the cause of the fire was unknown.
