BOUCHER PAC FUNDS DRAW BELL CRITICISM

George Bell, a candidate for the Republican Party's 9th District congressional nomination, has criticized the district's Democratic congressman for taking political action committee money.

Bell said in a statement Thursday that Boucher ranks 21st among congressmen in taking PAC money. He said a Federal Election Commission report says Boucher received $190,608 in 1991.

Bell and one of his opponents for the nomination, Gary Weddle, also accused Boucher of abusing his congressional mailing privileges.

In labeling Boucher "one of Washington's most wasteful junk mailers," Weddle cited a study released Monday by the National Taxpayers Union, which rated Boucher as 14th highest user of Congress' free mailing privileges.

Bell contended Boucher used his privileges to send mail outside the district.

The third candidate seeking the district's Republican nomination is Lew Sheckler.
