Conrad Johnston retired last November from a pastorate lasting more than 20 years at Salem Baptist Church. He will be an administrator, with his wife working in church and home outreach ministries.
Ecumenical Seminar for women planned
An Ecumenical Seminar for Women is scheduled April 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Central YWCA Center, 605 First St. in downtown Roanoke.
Representatives are expected from the United Methodist, Unitarian, Jewish, Muslim, Baha'i, Divine Science and Quaker religious groups. A potluck dinner will precede the discussion. Beverages will be supplied, but those attending are to bring food. Registration is requested by April 6. Call 345-9922.
`The Resurrection' to be presented April 3
"The Resurrection," a gospel musical drama of Easter, will be presented at 8 p.m., April 3, in the Roanoke Civic Center Auditorium.
The play, written by Roanoker Dana Pannell, is now in its fourth year of production. It combines music, drama and dance to describe the last week of Jesus' life.
Willie Gibbs is the director, and Chauncey Price is musical director.
The presentation, co-sponsored by Victory Christian Center, is free, though an offering will be taken.
"The Resurrection" will be presented again May 15 on the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg.
Baptist publication's longtime editor to speak
The Rev. Julian Pentecost, who retires next month as the long-time editor of Virginia's Southern Baptist Religious Herald, will speak Oct. 4-6 in Roanoke. He will be the lecturer for Calvary Baptist Church's Harry Y. Gamble Renewal Series.
Pentecost's successor, former Roanoker Michael Clingenpeel, will speak at the April 28 annual spring meeting of the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association. It will be at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Salem.
