BARTOK-KABELEVSKY CONTEST AT RU

The 12th Annual Bartok-Kabalevsky piano competition will be held April 10-12 at Radford University. The event is open to all pianists, of all ages, and attracts participants from the United States and around the world.

Contestants perform two of either Bartok's or Kabalevsky's compositions, which range in difficulty. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in the following categories: kindergarten-grade 3, grades 4-6, grades 7-9, grades 10-12, college students to age 24 and adults over 24.

Gyorgy Sandor, a protege of Bartok and world-class pianist, will judge the competition. Salvatore Moltisanti, last year's winner on the adult level, will assist in judging.

Sandor will lecture in Powell Recital Hall on April 10 at 3 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public. Moltisanti will present a solo recital that same night at 8 in Preston Auditorium. Sandor will play on April 12 at 2 p.m. in Preston Auditorium.

Admission for both recitals is Radford University I.D., free; $3 for the public; and $1 for children.
