WYTHE DEVELOPMENT FUNDS TO BE TIGHT

Wythe County officials have warned the county's Joint Industrial Development Authority that funding will be difficult next year.

County Administrator Billy Branson and Supervisor Jack Crosswell both told the authority that it would be lucky to get as much next year from the county as it did this year. The town of Wytheville is also part of the authority.

The comments came following a proposal Thursday that the authority, Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce and the town's public information office share a receptionist/clerk employee. Authority Executive Director Earl Joy said the shared position would require no additional county funds. The authority tabled a decision.

In other business, the authority adopted a resolution honoring the late George F. "Jesse" James, who served for 22 years on the county Board of Supervisors and had been appointed to the authority shortly before his death March 14. James was instrumental in the development of the Fairview, Ivanhoe and Rural Retreat industrial parks, as well as shell buildings in the first two. - Southwest bureau
