The Virginia State Corporation Commission said Friday it has approved a fuel-factor reduction for Kentucky Utilities Co. The lower rate will be reflected in bills beginning April 1. The average residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of power will see bills drop by $1.09 to $53.67 a month. Kentucky Utilities, based in Lexington, Ky., has 26,500 customers in Wise, Lee, Dickenson, Russell and Scott counties in Virginia.
Trade officials from the United States, Canada and Mexico wrapped up a weeklong bargaining session Friday with no word on how much progress had been made in completing a continent-wide free-trade agreement. Officials agreed to continue talks at a lower level next week and said that U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills and her counterparts from the other two countries would convene for high-level negotiations the following week.
