NAMES ON CAMPUS

JAMES L.W. WEST III, a Blacksburg native and former faculty member at Virginia Tech, was named distinguished professor of English by the Board of Trustees at Pennsylvania State University.

West - son of Kate West of Blacksburg and the late James L.W. West Jr., professor and former head of the foreign languages department at Tech - received his doctorate from the University of South Carolina, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellow in 1971.

He has written primarily as a literary historian and a student of professional authorship in America.

His most recent book, "American Authors and the Literary Marketplace Since 1900," was published in 1988 and has been reissued in paperback.

West, who taught in the Virginia Tech English department from 1971 to 1985, is writing a biography of American novelist William Styron.

He joined the faculty at Penn State in 1986.

\ SNODA HENDRICKS of Blacksburg has received a bachelor's degree in interior design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

\ ELIZABETH A. DURRILL of Radford has received a bachelor's degree magna cum laude in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

\ KIMBERLY L. PERDUE of Blacksburg has been elected president for the Student Government Association of Roanoke College for the 1992-93 academic year. A Blacksburg High School graduate, she is in her junior year.

\ KATHLEEN NICELY, daughter of James and Sonya Nicely of Radford and a senior music major at Depauw University in Indiana, played the role of Mrs. Nolan in the Depauw Opera Theatre's March production of "The Medium."

She is a 1988 Radford High School graduate.

\ JAMES ECK of Blacksburg was named to the 1991 fall semester dean's list at Ball State University in Indiana.

\ JILL HUGGINS, daughter of Victor and Jo Pat Huggins of Blacksburg, was named to the 1991 fall semester dean's list at the Atlanta College of Art.

\ MICHAEL BOWEN, a 1989 Blacksburg High School graduate, was named to the 1991 fall semester dean's list at Virginia Commonwealth University.

\ KAREN LYNN FULLER of McCoy was named to the 1991 fall semester dean's list at Milligan College in Tennessee.

\ LAUREL KATE SHULER of Blacksburg was named to the 1991 fall semester dean's list at Georgetown University in Washington.

\ KIMBERLY A. JACKSON of Blacksburg was named to the 1991 fall semester dean's list at Oglethorpe University in Georgia.

\ REBECCA MURRAY, daughter of Lynda Murray and the late Frank Murray of Blacksburg, was named to the 1991 fall semester dean's list at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania.
