"We're getting closer to a private university, with an education only the rich can afford," said Adam Arthur, the board's student representative.
The board on Friday unanimously approved the tuition increase, along with increased fees for housing and meals.
Undergraduate tuition will increase by 16 percent, about $536 more per semester; law students will see a 27.7 percent increase, or $1,340 more; graduate business students 25.4 percent, or $1,376; and medical students 8.2 percent, or $600.
University housing will cost an average of 5.5 percent more and the cost of meals will increase an average of 6.1 percent.
