$1-BILLION PLANES NEEDED FOR DEFENSE?

MINI-THOUGHTS on maxi-subjects:

If our country needs to have $1-billion planes to defend itself, we and the world are really in a bad fix.

Only a $500 fine for leaving weapons where children can get to them? Might not some leave weapons intentionally in the hope that children will do a job for them?

Likely to have the best chance for a third party now: a taxpayers' party.

It's time to lower the age limit for holding youngsters fully responsible for their actions.

Tax all income over $200,000 at a 100 percent rate. That would help deal with greed, now rampant.

Wouldn't the favorite-son method of choosing candidates for the presidency be better than what we are now seeing? JAMES R. THORPE PEARISBURG
