KID'S TROUT RODEO FISHING FOR FUNDS

Martha Robertson enjoys few things more than watching kids fish during the annual Ernest Pig Robertson Trout Rodeo, started by her late husband 41 years ago.

"They come by the hundreds every year, excited and eager to catch the big trout," she said.

But with the rodeo scheduled to open May 9, Robertson is having to do some fishing of her own. She needs to hook some money - big money - to purchase trout for the kids. That hasn't been an easy catch.

"Last year we purchased $7,000 worth of trout and had thousands of treats and prizes," she said.

So far, only $5,500 has been collected this time, Robertson said.

Contributions from organizations, individuals and businesses may be made through the Salem Parks and Recreation Department.

Here's the 1992 rodeo dates:

May 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for children ages 3 to 8.

May 11, 10 a.m. to noon, handicapped children.

May 13, 10 a.m. to noon, nursing home patients.

May 16, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., children ages 9 to 12.
