CARP THE PRIZE CATCH IN MUDBASS CLASSIC

There may not be much carping about it among the ranks of tournament pros like Roland Martin and Woo Daves, but the annual Mudbass Classic is a pretty big affair. At least for the sponsor, the Virginia Tech chapter of the American Fisheries Society.

There are several ways you can win a prize in the classic, scheduled at the Virginia Tech Duck Pond on April 11. You can catch a tagged carp, the largest carp, the most carp or, if you are a kid, you can score by picking up the most trash around the pond.

If prizes aren't important, you can simply listen to music provided by the McKenzies, said Scott Gordon, the classic chairman.

Registration begins 11:30 a.m.; the fishing at noon. The entry fee is $2.50 for adults, $1.25 for ages 12 to 16 and free for under 12.

Additional information is available from Gordon at 703-231-5320.
