Raymond William Altizer, Sr., age 81 of Salem, died Saturday. He was widely known with his team of horses in the Salem vicinity. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jeannie Harlow. Surviving are one son, Raymon W. Altizer, Jr., Jefferson, Md.; three daughters, Levenna Elliott, Forsythe, Ga.; Betty Harlow, Roanoke; Pat France-Kelly, Columbia, Md.; two brothers, Howard Altizer and Harry Altizer, both of Salem; two sisters, Ruth Mills and Reba Brown, both of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, with the Rev. Lowell Altizer officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Park.
