William Howe Armentrout, age 79, died Sunday, March 29, 1992, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born October 24, 1912, in Rockbridge Baths, a son of the late Howe Edward Armentrout and Irene Beckner Armentrout. Mr. Armentrout served in the educational field that spanned for thirty-five years being a principal and educator for many Virginia school systems. He also served as the principal of the overseas dependent schools in Germany for five years. He retired from the Rockbridge County School System in 1978. He was a graduate of Washington and Lee and the University of Virginia. Mr. Armentrout was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, and the Bethesda Presbyterian Church. He also served as treasurer for the local chapter of Virginia Museums. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Schwartz Armentrout; two sons, Dr. Albert S. Armentrout of Norton; Edmund H. Armentrout, Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Lewis Armentrout and Lee Armentrout, both of Natural Bridge; one sister, Ernestine Davis, Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 1992, in the Bethesda Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. David Dickerson. The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
