HOKIES GET SWEEP OVER GREEN WAVE

Steve Render and Les Jennette hit home runs as Virginia Tech completed a three-game Metro Conference baseball sweep against Tulane with a 15-9 victory Sunday at English Field.

Tech (20-2-1 overall, 3-0 Metro) erased Tulane's 2-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Render hit a solo home run in the second inning, and the Hokies scored six runs in the third. Designated hitter Jennette capped Virginia Tech's scoring with a grand slam in the fifth inning.

Tulane (18-13, 3-6) got most of its offense from catcher Larry Schneider, who went 4-for-5 with three home runs and five RBI. - Staff report
