WPVR LEFT VOID IN LOCAL RADIO

I REFER to Virginia Foster's (March 9) letter on WPVR's change to a light-contemporary format.

If you travel and car-radio listen and like what WPVR used to broadcast, you find most locales have one old-fashioned, elevator-type, dentist-office-music radio station. The Roanoke area once had two such stations, but for many years now has had only one - WPVR.

Someone must think it's good business to be one of many radio stations playing modern stuff. I would have guessed it was profitable to be unique.

I hope some enterprising radio businessman will jump in the void left by WPVR. Meanwhile, I'll play tapes. THOMAS WIGGINS CLIFTON FORGE
