\ SOFTBALL: At Martinsville, Fredricka Mitchell went 2-for-3 with four RBI and winning pitcher Shawn Harrison had three RBI as Laurel Park (2-3) belted Dan River 16-1 in a Piedmont District game.
At Martinsville, Kathleen Speakman went 3-for-5 and scored three runs to lead a 16-hit attack as unbeaten Magna Vista outscored Fieldale-Collinsville 14-13 in a Piedmont District game.
Jennifer Underwood was 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs for Fieldale-Collinsville.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: At Vinton, Michael Holm and Hunter Durham each scored three goals as William Byrd walloped Alleghany 11-0 in a Blue Ridge District game. The Terriers (1-1, 1-0) outshot the Mountaineers 66-1. Alleghany is 0-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the district.
\ BASEBALL: Tim Stanford pitched a one-hitter to lead Richlands to a 6-0 non-district victory over Carroll County.
Stanford walked three and struck out five in six innings. Chris Crigger's single was the only hit for Carroll County (3-1), which made four errors that led to three unearned runs for Richlands (1-0).
At Rocky Gap, Aaron Sampson went 2-for-4 and pitcher Ricky Helvey won his third straight start as unbeaten Fort Chiswell (4-0) outscored Rocky Gap 9-6 in a Mountain Empire District game that doesn't count in the league standings. Brian had two hits and two RBI for Rocky Gap (1-1). Tim Perkins and Quinton Slaughter also had two hits for the Eagles.
At Holston, Alex Boyd knocked in three runs leading Chilhowie to a 12-1 Hogoheegee District romp over the Cavaliers (0-3, 0-2). Jeff Robinson went 3-for-3 and Andy Blevins 2-for-2 for the Warriors (1-1, 1-0).
