BOY SHOT BY DAD MAY LOSE ARM

Doctors are unsure whether they can save the arm of an 18-month-old boy who was shot by his father during a fight that ended with the shooting deaths of both of his parents.

The boy, William Weidrick III, was shot in the left arm at close range with a shotgun Saturday. He was in stable condition at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, where hospital spokeswoman Carol Powell said doctors may decide today whether the arm can be saved.

Police said they do not know why the boy's father, William "J.R." Weidrick, 35, showed up at the home of his estranged girlfriend, Stacey Weidrick, 27. But relatives said the two had argued before the shootings, apparently over child support.

Police said the couple had met several years ago and began going together after she had divorced one of his younger brothers. Stacey Weidrick did not marry William Weidrick but they had lived together until she moved into his mother's house with her three children.

Witnesses saw Stacey Weidrick run through her front door about 11:40 a.m., fleeing her boyfriend, who already had shot their son.

Weidrick caught up with the woman in the next yard and shot her in the head, police said. He then moved several feet away, pointed the gun at his head and killed himself.
