GROUP AA ENDS VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT TODAY

The Group AA volleyball tournament, postponed from Saturday because of snow, will be completed tonight beginning at 5:30 at Jefferson Forest High School in Forest. One semifinal will pit Gate City against Loudoun Valley, and the other will have Gretna playing Broadway.

Norfolk Academy won the boys' and girls' divisions of the 19th annual Virginia State Independent Schools Swimming and Diving Championships at the Wakefield Recreational Center in Fairfax.

The titles were the ninth consecutive for both teams. The boys totaled 228 points; the girls, 203.

North Cross' boys were fifth with 63 points; the girls were eighth with 42.

North Cross' John Logan was a state champion in the 50-meter freestyle in 21.42 seconds and was second in the 100 freestyle in 48.32. The boys' 200 medley relay team was fifth, and the 200 freestyle relay was sixth.

Mary Logan was the top girl for North Cross, placing fourth in the 200 individual medley and sixth in the 100 backstroke.
