DAYTIME LOSES TWO OF ITS STARS

Tragedy struck the soap opera world twice in the past few weeks. Joy Garrett, who played Jo Johnson on "Days of Our Lives," died Feb. 11, after losing a hard-fought battle with liver failure. Garrett is survived by her parents, Clarence and Kathleen Garrett, of Fort Worth, Texas, who have suggested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in the actress's name to the Wesleyan University Theater Scholarship Fund. The address is: Wesleyan University, 1201 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth, Texas, 76105.

Garrett created the role of Johnson in 1987 and continued on the show until her hospitalization. The actress was also seen on "The Young and the Restless" as Boobsie Caswell (1984-85), which originally was a recurring role that turned into a contract part because of Garrett's Garrett popularity with the show's fans.

Garrett will truly be missed by her "Days of Our Lives" castmates and her many fans. Veteran soap opera actress Marilyn McIntyre stepped in for Garrett when she was hospitalized and will continue in the role of Jo.

On the East Coast, 33-year-old Michael David Morrison, who played Caleb Snyder on "As the World Turns," was found dead in an apartment in Manhattan's East Village Feb. 18. According to reports, Morrison was staying at the apartment of a friend who was unable to wake the actor in the early morning hours. By the time police and paramedics arrived, Morrison was already in cardiac arrest. At press time, the exact cause of Morrison's death was unknown since autopsy results hadn't been released yet. Morrison was married to actress Amy McDonald, and they have a 3-year-old son.
